Rio de Janeiro is known for its high crime rate but now people are starting to use smartphone apps to keep themselves safe.

Two companies, OTT and Cross-fire are crowdsourcing information about violence in the city. The alerts residents to incidents in real time and collates statistics about where crime is committed.
