Ah, those warm summer are the best, aren’t they? And not just because they’re synonymous with lounging poolside or trekking down to the river with family and friends. There’s just something about this time of year that makes it perfect for setting and accomplishing goals, or tackling that special that’s been at the back of your mind.

I don’t know if it’s the heat, or the long days, or maybe just that extra touch of playfulness that seems to tickle folks between Spring and Fall. But there’s just something about the that is perfect for finally cleaning out the garage, or taking a class, or picking up a new hobby.

It’s an ideal time for learning some new code skills or building on the ones you already have. Think about it: If you set your mind to it, I mean really committed yourself to doing something awesome, how much could you learn in a single summer? What sorts of cool projects could you build in that time?

Now that we are clear about what we want to accomplish, we can employ smart daily to-do lists to ensure that we’re making regular progress on our march toward our great goals. It is not an understatement to say that this one simple practice has the potential to change your life. Nearly every highly effective, productive and successful person will tell you about the value and importance of to-do lists. All it takes is a pen or pencil, a piece of scratch paper or a notepad, and just a few minutes out of your day. However, if you’re like me and you’d prefer a less analogue approach, you’re in luck.  There’s no shortage of great online to-do list apps.  My team uses Asana, which I’ve found to be great for working on a lot of projects.  For something a little more lightweight and personal, but still versatile and effective, here’s a pair of apps that really look the part, Todoist and Remember the Milk.

Telling your story can have a multitude of benefits. It can increase your insight and understanding of your experience. It can help motivate you to keep going. It serves as a great reminder of what you’ve gone through and accomplished. And it can help others who are on a similar journey. Even if you’re not a fan of blogs or don’t consider yourself a writer, taking the time to detail your own journey is an incredibly helpful and beneficial practice, whether it’s once a day or even once a week. Distractions

The summertime sure has its fair share of distractions. The kids are out of school. There are concerts and festivals that beckon. Nature’s in full bloom and enticing us to its beaches and parks. With a million fun and distracting things going on all around us, it can be incredibly difficult to stay focused at times. But where there’s a will, there’s a way — and where there’s a problem, there’s an opportunity for a solution. Like investing in a pair of noise-cancelling headphones, or taking up some mindfulness exercises and practices to quiet and calm the mind and increase your control over your actions, thoughts, and decisions.
