Last Thursday, Hortonworks announced financial results for the fourth quarter and full year of 2017. These are exciting times at the company, as our CEO Rob Bearden announced another quarter of record breaking growth! Q4 revenue was up 44 percent compared to the prior year, and yearly growth clocked in at 42 percent.
Hortonworks has been a public company for four years now, and in that time, has evolved from the leading Hadoop provider to the leading global data management platform company. The continued growth in both data volume and accelerating velocity remain the core drivers of this growth.
In the last few years, the evolution of data science opportunities, the cloud, hybrid operating models, and Internet of Things (IoT) industrial use cases have further expanded the market for Hortonworks Connected Data Platforms.
Our partnerships continue to flourish, with the likes of IBM, Microsoft, Accenture, and many others, helping to open new opportunities for all involved.
It’s clear that the company continues to grow at a breakneck pace, and it wouldn’t be possible without our customers. Today, we have over 1,300 customers throughout the world, and we’re seeing customers across every industry achieve incredible results.
Some of the industries that Rob highlighted were as follows:
• Financial services – Companies like Eagle Investment Systems, Lloyds Banking Group, Societe Generale, and ATB Financial have chosen Hortonworks to help address the business challenges they’re facing. Banks and financial services institutions are recognizing data as a strategic resource for analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. They use big data analytics to unlock insights, make more meaningful decisions and manage risk.
• Manufacturing – Leading manufacturers, like Daimler Trucks North America, are in the midst of change as they digitally transform their entire value chains. Our solutions are enabling these manufacturers to optimize real-time decision making across product development, manufacturing, supply chain, and customer experience operations.
• Public and Education – In the public and education sectors, where our customers are challenged with extracting actionable intelligence for their data sources, organizations like Carnegie Mellon University and California State Department of Water Resources are also leveraging our platforms.
As we move into 2018, we continue to see significant opportunity for growth. Hortonworks DataPlane Service will be one of the key drivers of this, as it enables customers to glean a more complete picture of their data along a single pane of glass.
Thanks to all our customers and partners for making this another monumental quarter!
