Dell EMC expects Smart City projects to drive growth in IndiaDell EMC expects city projects to drive significant growth through activities in of things (IoT) in India.

The data storage and services major said it is seeing fresh request for proposals (RFP) for smart city projects, reforms in the among other growth drivers.

“We have not seen a slowdown in government projects. New RFPs are coming up around smart cities, power reforms phase II,” said Rajesh Janey, president, India Enterprise, Dell EMC. “The realisation within the government is that IT (information technology) is the key foundation for everything that is deeply embedded.”

He added that the company is also seeing expansions of its existing projects in the country.

IoT, a part of the larger engineering and R&D services segment, is the key enabler of smart citizen services. India expects IoT units to grow to 1.9 billion units in 2020 from its current base of nearly 0.06 billion, which could potentially create a $9 billion worth opportunity, according to a report by Deloitte.

Dell EMC said its customers in India are increasingly focusing on business outcomes and looking forward to a convergence of cloud and on-premise. This has resulted in a higher use of IoT and to improve services.

“The moment you come to data centre piece customers are looking at business outcomes instead of putting the pieces of technology together. So, we see a lot of converged and hyperconverged infrastructure, we see a lot of defined things,” said Janey.
