King’s Candy Crush Saga was the highest grossing mobile game from a Western developer in the second quarter, despite having launched nearly six years ago this November. According to Sensor Tower Store Intelligence data, App Store and Google Play users spent an estimated $213 million in the game during Q2, representing year-over-year growth of about 18 percent over the $180 million it generated in the year-ago quarter.
More than half—approximately 56 percent—of player spending contributing to Candy Crush revenue in Q2 originated in the United States. Its second most popular country by revenue last quarter was Great Britain, by a distant 6 percent of the total.
Candy Crush Saga ranked No. 7 in terms of overall app spending across both stores last quarter and No. 6 among mobile games, surpassing the likes of Niantic’s Pokémon GO at No. 7, GungHo Online Entertainment’s Puzzle & Dragons at No. 8, and Supercell’s Clash Royale at No. 9.
