IBM is partnering with the Red Cross, the Linux Foundation, the United Nations and several other organizations on a disaster relief effort called the Call for Code Global Initiative. The goal is to encourage developers to leverage cloud computing, data analytics, artificial intelligence, blockchain and the Internet of Things to create apps that can help humanity prepare for and respond to natural disasters. IBM CEO Ginni Rometty said her company will contribute $30 million and a variety of technology to support the initiative.
The project includes a coding contest that will honor 30 semi-finalists, 3 finalists and an ultimate winner. Apps can be submitted to the contest between June 18, 2018, and Aug. 31, 2018. More information can be found at CallforCode.org.
